| Q. |
What is a Periodic Electrical Inspection? |
| A. |
A Periodic Inspection is an inspection of the condition of your existing electrical installation in order to identify any deficiencies against the national safety standard for electrical installations (BS 7671). |
| Q. |
When is a Periodic Inspection needed? |
| A. |
It is recommended that periodic inspection and testing is carried out at least every: • 10 years for a domestic installation • 5 years for a commercial property • 3 years for caravans • 1 year for swimming pools
Other instances when a periodic inspection should be carried out are: • When a property is being prepared to be let • Prior to selling a property or when buying a previously occupied property |
| Q. |
What happens during a periodic inspection? |
| A. |
The electrical engineer will check the electrical installation against the requirements of BS 7671 – Requirements for Electrical Installations (IEE Wiring Regulations) – as amended, which is the national safety standard for electrical installations, and contains around 850 regulations. |
| Q. |
Why should I have my electrical installation inspected? |
| A. |
Nearly 40% of homes in the U.K. date back to before 1945, making their wiring several decades old and requiring renewal. Cables, sockets and other outlets deteriorate with use and according to government figures around 10% of domestic fires are electrical, and of these a third are a direct result of old or bad wiring. |
| Q. |
If my property requires a rewire or remedial work can I have additional sockets or switches installed? |
| A. |
If you have work carried out at your property it is an ideal time to have additional equipment installed to make life easier, for example you may choose to have: • Additional sockets in your kitchen, lounge, hallway or bedrooms • Sockets or lights in your garage/outbuildings • Wall lights instead of, or as well as, ceiling lights • An extractor fan in your kitchen or bathroom |
| Q. |
Why should I choose EEC Electrical to ensure my electrical installation is safe? |
| A. |
EEC Ltd has been providing a first-class service for its clients since 1991, and in order to ensure this continues we only employ fully qualified electricians and do not use subcontracted labour. In addition to providing a full 5 year guarantee on its work EEC will also refund the initial cost of your inspection against any essential work. |
| Q. |
When will my electric installation require inspecting again? |
| A. |
Once any work needed to bring the electrical installation up to British Standard BS7671 has been completed and a satisfactory inspection report has been issued your installation should not require further inspection and testing for up to 10 years.
| Q. |
What happens once the inspection has been carried out? |
| A. |
Once the inspection has been completed EEC Electrical will provide you with an inspection report detailing the condition of your electrical installation, and any recommendations. |
| Q. |
How long will the inspection take to complete? |
| A. |
This all depends on the size of the property, obviously the larger the property the longer the required inspection time, but on average the engineer should be able to complete a detailed inspection in about 3-4 hours.
